Associateship

Module A1: The Marine Insurance Act 1906, The Insurance Act 2015 and related principles of insurance.

Module A2: Hull and Cargo claims.

Module A3: Upstream and Offshore Energy Claims.  Since the launch in 2018 of this specialist Module, aimed at providing a framework for study by practitioners in the upstream and offshore sectors, we have been disappointed by the lack of support, with only a very few candidates having registered to sit this paper. Accordingly the Examining Committee has confirmed that Module A3 is discontinued with immediate effect.

These modules can be taken in any order and the pass mark is 60% per paper with a distinction being awarded for 80%.

By passing both Module A1 and  A2 a candidate achieves the qualification of Associate of the Association of Average Adjusters. However failure to continue as a Member of the AAA would result in that person not being listed as an Associate on the website nor in the Annual Report.

The papers are of 2½ hours duration. Specimen papers and a list of topics for each examination are available for downloading from this page.

Roughly 75% of the Module A2 will be related to Hull and Machinery claims, with the emphasis on the standard clauses and claims for damage repairs; only an outline knowledge of general average is required.
